Karen Kangas-Preston
Costume Designer/Costume Technician
Karen Kangas-Preston is a Costume Designer based in Michigan. She is a Senior Academic Specialist at Michigan State University, where she has spent the last 20+ years. She teaches costume design/technology and stage makeup, leads the Theatre in London summer education abroad program, and designs costumes for the Department and at local professional theatres. Select costume design credits include: Fancy: A Country Jukebox Musical, Mom's Gift, The All Night Strut (Meadowbrook Theatre); Smell of the Kill (Williamston Theatre/Tipping Point Theatre); 9 Parts of Desire, 900 Miles to International Falls, New Releases, the Greater Tuna series, Our Lady of Poison (Williamston Theatre); The Jack Sprat Low Fat World Tour (a Wharton Center and MSU Department of Theatre collaboration); Oklahoma!, Cyrano de Bergerac, The Wizard of Oz, One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, The Life, Urinetown, and Three Sisters/Anton in Show Business (in rep) (MSU); The Drunken City, Fallen Angels, and Mr. Burns: A Post-Electric Play (Summer Circle Theatre). Karen received her BFA in costume design and technology from the University of Minnesota-Duluth and her MFA in costume design from Illinois State University.
